Writers Unions
How many of you are members of a writers union? Do you believe they are actually beneficial, or are they just a waste of money? I've considered joining a writers union at one time or another, but I haven't received enough feedback to know whether they are worthwhile or not.If any of you have any thoughts on the matter, please let me know!

I joined the Freelancers Union, even though I really don't identify myself as a "freelancer." On top of that, I don't necessarily agree with all of the organization's objectives, either (i.e. extension of unemployment benefit availability to entrepreneurs and the self-employed).
That being said, FU is working to create reasonably accessible health insurance benefits for those who don't qualify for quality group coverage due to their self-employed status.
That was enough to get me to put my name on the membership list.

I was a member of the National Writers Union for several years, but ultimately found it to be a big waste of money. There was so much infighting within the organization that it seemed really ineffective. Just my two cents . . . I know some people who are big NWU advocates.
