Writing Question of the Week

Happy Wednesday!

As writers, sometimes we might have to write about topics we are less than enthusiastic about. Hopefully, this doesn't happen on a regular basis - but it can and DOES happen.

With that being said: What are your favorite topics to write about? Do you specialize in any specific field/niche? Finally, do you have any topics you absolutely refuse to write about (either for moral/ethical reasons or just because you plain hate the topic?!)

Thank you for your feedback!

Best,

Denise

My niche is autism and pervasive developmental disorders. Love psych, art, music, weddings, shopping, home improvement, writing about writing, too...Lots of others.

I won't write about math or politics. Both subjects are confusing and aggravating to me.

Wow, that's an interesting niche to specialize in!

I hear you about math. I couldn't write about that subject to save my life :)

I do more editing than writing and specialize in working with self-publishing authors. I also have several business clients that I write for regularly. I don't work on erotica or anything else that conflicts with my personal beliefs.

Lillie, might I ask how you got started in editing? Do you prefer that to actual writing?

Like you, I refuse to write on any topics that are against my beliefs or I just don't feel comfortable writing about. I'd rather be poor for a week than write about something I'm not fond of.

I like to write about cars, business, personal finances, and aviation. I won't write about certain topics for women as I simply ain't one!

If there is a topic that conflicts with my Christian beliefs I won't write about. Those would include gambling, adult subject matter, and anything promoting alcohol abuse (vs. wine articles simply discussing wine service, types of wine, and more).

I only write on business subject (small business, consulting, freelance work, marketing, and PR mostly - the things I have direct education or experience in) and indie music (b/c of my work as a music publicist and the fact that I'm heavily networked in the industry). If people ask me to write about something else, I tell them "sorry... no can do." Of course, I try to toss a few recommendations their way, so they'll find someone good, but I'm pretty strict on what I'll write about. I'm a specialist and set my rates accordingly, so I write only where I specialize. :)

Taggity tag tag tag. :D Oddly enough, it's mildly related to your own question... just writing styles rather than topics. :)
